GET THE DATA REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE ELITE PERFORMANCE

ELITE RUNNER PERFORMANCE & EFFICIENCY TESTING

Elite Runner Performance & Efficiency Testing at GymTherapy provides data-driven and reliable insights into your running efficiency, mechanics, metabolism and performance. It combines both our VO2 Master, elite inertia measurement units (IMUs) and video analysis, to gain valuable data about your mechanics, metabolism, ventilatory thresholds, VO2 Max and training zones. Specific speeds/paces are assessed to understand how your physiology and mechanics change and guides specific training interventions to help you achieve your next personal best!

Elite Runner Performance & Efficiency Testing at GymTherapy includes:

1. In-Depth Pre-Assessment Screening & History
An in-depth discussion is had to understand your current and historic training and running history, previous injury history, any niggles/pains that you may currently experience on runs, along with an understanding of your goal paces/times for races.

2. Elite Running Testing - VO2 Max, IMU & Video Analysis
We will then fit our VO2 Master mask along with Inertia Measurement Units (IMUs) onto you (feet and lower back) and perform gait analysis (including video analysis) whilst you are running on a treadmill. Initially, different speeds are assessed for set periods of time to understand your metabolic work and mechanics. We then complete a ramp protocol to test your VO2 Max. This is followed by aperiod of easy running to determine metabolic recovery, followed by a final continuous run test to verify VO2 Max data.

3. Musculoskeletal & Performance Testing
The second part of our testing consultation includes specific joint and muscle assessment (linked to your previous/current injury history) along with strength & power testing to determine any asymmetries or strength deficits contributing to your running mechanics and efficiency.

4. Analysis of Results - Individual Development Plan
Following our assessment, we discuss the key findings specific for you, the potential reasons/factors contributing to your running performance & gait along with an action plan to address these deficits. A running gait analysis report and VO2 Max report is sent to you. A follow-up data interpretation consultation is then organised where we dive deeper into the data and give you key training and performance recommendations to achieve that personal best!

5. Support & Guidance
Throughout the process, continuous support and guidance is provided to ensure you achieve your running goals. Referral as required to our network of coaches may be appropriate to help you on your way to better running. Re-testing is completed to assess your improvement and make specific changes for you to help you continuously improve.

Elite Runner Performance & Efficiency Testing is suitable for a wide range of individuals who perform in sports where endurance is important:

  • Runners - particularly those competing in distances ranging from 800m to ultra marathon events
  • Multi-sport athletes (triathletes)
  • Team sport athletes (football/AFL)
  • Athletes looking to gain data-driven insights into their metabolism and mechanics

Choosing ELITE RUNNER PERFORMANCE & EFFICIENCY TESTING AT GymTherapy means you will:

  • Gain an in-depth understanding about your running performance, metabolism, VO2 Max, thresholds, training zones and gait mechanics
  • Use the data to enhance and optimise your training specific for you and your goals.
  • Enhance your running efficiency
  • Reduce running injury risk
  • Guidance on factors contributing to your running efficiency and performance

You will learn about several aspects of your running performance including:

  • Running Gait Cycle: Describes the different stages of gait during running, includes the stance, float and swing phases.
  • VO2 Max: Is a measure of the body's capacity to maximally uptake oxygen from the environment and use it in skeletal muscle during intense full-body exercise (maximal oxygen consumption). It is considered the gold-standard measurement for cardiorespiratory fitness
  • Limb Symmetry Index (LSI): A metric used to measure the difference between the right and left side during running gait on various key metrics. Important especially for those with previous or current injuries looking to understand and determine the root cause of pain and dysfunction.
  • Ventilatory Thresholds: Describes the relationship between physical exertion and ventilation. During VO2 Max testing, two key ventilatory thresholds (VT1 & VT2) are identified, which allows for specific training recommendations that improve these values moving forward.

  • Ground Contact Time: Time in milliseconds where the foot is in contact with the ground. It is measured from the point of heel contact until the point of toe off and an important metric when assessing running efficiency
  • Training Zones: Training zones are calculated based on the relationship between your VO2 Max, heart rate, and mechanical output (power/pace). By completing VO2 Max testing, it allows for accurate prescription of these training zones, optimising training and performance.
  • Running Gait Deviations: A variety of deviations may be present during the running gait cycle that contribute to reduced efficiency, performance and increased injury risk. These are assessed through our IMU and video analysis technology.
