STRONG KNEES YOU CAN RELY ON

THE STRONG KNEES PROGRAM

The Strong Knees Program is a specialised, holistic approach to optimising knee performance, function, and health through the lifespan. Pain and dysfunction as a result of various conditions, such as osteoarthritis, can have a significant impact on function and quality of life. A consequence of this pain and dysfunction includes accelerated de-conditioning of the knee complex, leading to further pain, reduced strength, and symptoms.

The Strong Knees Program is specially designed to stop this pattern and cycle. Our program uses contemporary technology, equipment, and a strong evidence base to get you back to achieving your health, function, and performance goals.

Our Strong Knees Program includes a variety of assessments, treatments, and techniques, individualised for you to optimise your knee function and strength. This includes:

1. In-Depth Musculoskeletal & Knee Joint Assessment
A thorough assessment using our contemporary technology to obtain baseline range of motion, strength, power, and dynamic stability/balance data provides us the foundation to deliver individualised care.

2. Reduce Pain — Manual Therapy & Soft Tissue Techniques
A variety of techniques may be used to reduce initial pain and target specific goals such as improving patellofemoral joint mechanics and addressing functional restrictions. Learn more about our Treatment & Therapy.

3. Individual Strength & Function Program
A tailored strength, mobility, and function program is then implemented to target areas of weakness and address deficits that are contributing to your pain and knee health.

4. Technology Interventions — Maximising Results
We utilise technology, used within elite sport, to maximise your strength and function redevelopment. This includes the use of our monitoring technology to re-assess and adjust your program, along with modalities such as The Compex to provide electrical muscle stimulation to maximise strength and activation patterns.

5. Support & Guidance
Throughout the process, continuous support and guidance is provided to ensure you achieve your health and performance goals. We educate you throughout your Strong Knees Program journey on injury prevention strategies, altered exercise modalities, and lifestyle factors to optimise knee health throughout the lifespan.

The Strong Knees Program is suitable for a wide range of individuals, including:

We address a variety of conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Knee Osteoarthritis: A common condition that is described as progressive degenerative changes and loss of articular joint space and cartilage, causing pain and reduced function.
  • Knee Rheumatoid Arthritis: A type of arthritis where the immune system attacks healthy tissue in the knee joint, causing inflammation and pain.
  • Patellofemoral Dislocation/Subluxation: Common in athletes and females in the second decade of life, the patellar shifts laterally and leaves the trochlea groove of the femoral condyle. Associated with chronic, repeated dislocations/subluxations.
  • Chronic Cartilage Injuries: Damage to the overlying cartilage of the knee joint bones. May also be associated with chronic tears and loose bodies, causing pain and reduced function.
  • Osteochondritis Dissecans: Separation and instability to segments of the underlying subchondral bone and overlying cartilage which may lead to osteochondral fragments within the joint space.
  • Chondromalacia Patella: Described as a breakdown of the cartilage on the underneath (posterior) surface of the patella (kneecap).
  • Chronic Ligament Injuries: A condition whereby previous acute injury to one or more of the ligaments of the knee results in chronic pain, reduced function, and strength, impacting quality of life.
  • Chronic Tendon Pain: Overload and poor load management of various tendons of the knee can lead to reduced function and pain. Commonly the patella tendon however can occur at other tendons at the knee.
  • Meniscus Injuries: These may occur either from acute mechanisms such as change of direction and twisting/rotating or due to overload/degeneration of the meniscus.
